Smalti — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes what data Smalti ("the Software") collects and how it is used.
1. Your creative content stays local
Smalti processes images, videos, and generated mosaic data entirely on your own device. Your photos, videos, exported files, and project sessions are never uploaded to us or any third party by the Software.
2. What we do collect
To operate the free trial and license system, the Software stores the following locally on your device (in ~/Library/Application Support/Smalti/license.json):
an install date, used to calculate your trial period;
a randomly generated machine identifier;
your license key, if you activate one.
When you activate a license key, the Software sends the following to our license validation server:
the license key you entered;
the randomly generated machine identifier (not tied to your name, email, or any other personal information by the Software itself).
No image, video, project, or export content is ever included in this or any other network request made by the Software.
3. Payment information
Purchases are processed by Paddle (or successor payment provider), who acts as merchant of record. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Paddle's own privacy policy governs data collected during checkout — see https://www.paddle.com/legal/privacy.
4. Data we do not collect
The Software does not include analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking at this time. If that changes in a future version, this policy will be updated accordingly before the change ships.
5. Data retention & deletion
Local license/trial state can be deleted at any time by removing ~/Library/Application Support/Smalti/. Any record of your license key held on our validation server can be deleted on request — contact us using the details below.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Software evolves (for example, if a license server or update-check mechanism is added or changed). Material changes will be reflected in a new "Last updated" date above.
